White Sox vs Rangers
UNDER 11 +102 Lost

ASA PLAY ON 9* UNDER the Total - Texas Rangers vs Chicago White Sox, Thursday at 8:10 PM ET

Reynaldo Lopez was solid for the White Sox last week as he faced a potent Royals lineup and held them to just 2 earned runs on a pair of solo homers in 6 innings of solid work. Lopez is making just his 2nd start this season but he did finish up last season going 5-2 with a 3.41 ERA so Lopez has some solid experience already at the big league level. The Rangers are off of back to back high-scoring wins over the Tigers but those were their first two overs since August 6th. The White Sox have also trended under of late as they have recorded only 3 overs in their last 11 games. Chicago averaged only 4.1 runs per game during this 11 game stretch and we like taking advantage of the big total here by grabbing the under. The Rangers Tyson Ross has given up just 8 hits in 9 and 2 / 3 innings over his last two starts. He also is undefeated with a 3.44 ERA in his three starts versus the Pale Hose in his career. The White Sox have a long-term record of 58-38 in road games with a total set at 11 or 11.5 runs. Only 5 of the Rangers last 14 home games with a total in this range have resulted in an over. Also, the under is 10-6 this season when the Rangers enter a game on a winning streak of 3 or more consecutive games. Bet the UNDER in Texas in evening action Thursday.

Indians vs Twins

ASA PLAY ON 9* OVER the Total - Minnesota Twins vs Cleveland Indians, Thursday at 7:10 PM ET (Game 2 of DH)

6'10 Aaron Slegers will make his MLB debut in game two of the double-header with the Indians Thursday. He has a strong record and low ERA in the minors this season but opponents have hit .266 against him and he'll now be facing major league hitters. This is the first season that Slegers has pitched above the AA level in the minors so this is a tough big step for him all the way up to the bigs. The Indians will have Ryan Merritt making just his 2nd start of the MLB season and he was hit hard in the first one. For the 3rd straight year in the minors, opponents have averaged at least .266 against him on the season. In other words, facing major league hitters is unlikely to go well. Being that this is game two of a double-header you also tend to see some diminished bullpen arms and that will also help lead to an over in this one. The Indians entered today's action on a 5-game winning streak and averaging 5.4 runs per game in the five victories. The Twins entered today's action having scored 5 runs or more in 7 of their last 9 games. Bet the OVER in Minnesota in early evening action Thursday.

ASA PLAY ON 8* Tampa Bay -1 over Jacksonville, Thursday at 8 PM ET on ESPN

Tampa Bay -1 over Jacksonville, Thursday at 8 PM ET on ESPN – The Jags are off a “huge” pre-season win topping Super Bowl Champion New England on the road last week 31-24.  Many of the key players for the Pats either didn’t play or played very little (Brady didn’t play at all) so we’ll take that win with a grain of salt.  Tampa, on the other hand, lost @ Cincinnati making this game a bit more important for them.  The Jags did rack up over 400 yards on the Pats but half of their yards came on three big plays which all resulted in TD’s (97 yard run, 79 yard pass, 42 yard pass).  QB Blake Bortels played only 13 snaps and was held out of practice on Sunday due to a “tired arm”.  Expect another short stint from Bortels.  The Jacksonville defense was shredded last week.  They gave up 6 different drives vs the Pats that were at least 57 yards and New England rolled up 426 total yards.  The Bucs scored just 12 points last week in Cincinnati but are expected to play their offensive starters a full half to get their offense on track.  Tampa QB Jameis Winston, the first player in NFL history to throw for over 4,000 yards in each of his first two seasons, played only 2 series last week but it looks like they plan on playing him a full half as well here.  Expect the Bucs to move the ball very well in the first half vs a porous Jag defense.  In the 2nd half, Tampa will turn to veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick who has started much of his career.  TB expects to contend for the NFC South Title this year and we like the better team off a loss vs a poor team off a big win, albeit pre-season.

Reds vs Braves

ASA PLAY ON 9* Atlanta Braves Money Line (-) over Cincinnati Reds, Friday at 7:35 PM ET

The Braves opened up with a price as a mid-range favorite here but they have dropped down very nearly into the pick'em range for this match-up. Of course that is understandable given that the Braves are one of the worst teams in baseball. However, the key here is the pitching edge as it is a large one and we feel the original odds set on this game were absolutely in the right range. The result is now exceptional line value on a Braves team that has excelled with R.A. Dickey on the mound. This is particularly true in his home starts where the Braves have gone 9-3 this season with the knuckle-baller on the mound. Dickey has a 6-2 record at home with a 3.18 ERA. What has been most impressive about Dickey's performance of late is how consistent he has been over a long period of time. The knuckle-baller has allowed 1 earned run or less in 7 of his last 10 starts. Overall his ERA during this 10-start stretch is a fantastic 2.26 ERA. The Reds will have Sal Romano toeing the rubber in Atlanta this evening. The Cincinnati right-hander has certainly been at the opposite end of the spectrum. Cincinnati has lost each of his last four starts and Romano is 0-3 with a 7.94 ERA in his last 3 starts. The Braves are a respectable 24-19 in home games with a total set at 9 or 9.5 runs while the Reds are an awful 5-19 in road games with the same O/U range. Bet Atlanta on the money line in early evening action Friday.

Mariners vs Rays
UNDER 9 +100 Won
Play Type: Premium

ASA PLAY ON 9* UNDER the Total - Tampa Bay Rays vs Seattle Mariners, Friday at 7:10 PM ET

Erasmo Ramirez doesn't have great numbers on the season and his starts have resulted in a high percentage of overs this season. However, that is leading to line value here because there are key factors pointing to the under in this one. Ramirez is facing his former team and he is off of a strong start with 6 scoreless innings and just 3 hits allowed in his most recent outing. He now faces a Rays team that has been a long-term slump at the plate. Tampa Bay is 3-10 in their last 13 games and the Rays have averaged scoring only 1.8 runs per game during this awful 13 game stretch. The likelihood of TB's lineup bouncing back against a former teammate with his eye on revenge is not strong. As for the Rays starter today, Austin Pruitt has been very impressive. All 5 of his starts this season have resulted in an under and he has a stellar 1.96 ERA in his last 3 starts. Pruitt is facing a Mariners team that is off of a strong performance at the plate but, prior to the 7-run outburst Seattle had averaged only 3.2 runs per game in their 6 prior games. The Mariners are 12-7 to the under in Friday games and the Rays are 13-3 to the under in the month of August! Bet the UNDER in Tampa Bay in early evening action Friday.

The owners of American Sports Analysts, Lee Kostroski & Mike Merlet, have a combined 50+ years in the industry.  Both started with Doc’s Enterprises, Lee in the late 80’s and Mike in the early 90’s.  After learning the handicapping trade from one of the best in the business, they started ASA Inc in 1997 and have been going strong ever since.  They have been known throughout the industry for their success on BIG GAMES including their 10* Midwest Game of the Year.  They have posted a winning record on Top Games in 14 of their 19 football seasons giving them the much earned reputation as the top BIG GAME HANDICAPPERS in the country.  ASA is located in Madison, WI and they have also become known for their “Midwest ties” and handicapping prowess in the heart of the country – especially the Big Ten.

ASA has appeared on numerous radio shows throughout the country as special expert football guests  including Tampa, New Orleans, Madison, Milwaukee, Memphis, Las Vegas, and Denver just to name a few.  They were also featured on the ESPN website with gaming writer Chad Millman during the 2011 season.

ASA’s handicapping methods have been developed through years of hard work and research. Rather than implementing one specific strategy as many handicappers do, they intertwine many different philosophies when it comes to making football, basketball, hockey, and baseball selections.  They utilize their massive database that goes back over 30 years and can give them in depth information on any situation you can think of when it comes to handicapping.  That’s not where they stop however.  They also research stats and film each week to evaluate the upcoming match ups on the field along with speaking with their personal contacts throughout the country (especially in the Midwest).  On top of that, they analyze each pointspread (and their movements) comparing them with their own water tight power ratings to find where an edge might be found.  So as you can see, just because a game may fall into a successful system or the scheduling looks good to go against or with a certain team, that doesn’t mean that ASA automatically uses it as a selection. It must go through their in-depth process with all things considered before they give it the ASA stamp of approval. Looking at games from all of these angles gives ASA the best of all worlds when it comes to handicapping. Their handicapping theories have proven successful over the years because they provide their customers with the one thing they look for in this industry and that is WINNING RESULTS!

Lee & Mike at ASA have stood the test of time in an industry that makes it very tough to do so.  Their 50+ years of experience will give you the WINNING EDGE you need.  Sports wagering is an investment and it’s time you hire ASA as your stock brokers!
